Watch James Franklin's postgame press conference following win over Maryland
With Penn State’s biggest home game of the season now just a week away, many wondered how James Franklin’s team would handle a tricky road game at Maryland on Saturday. It didn’t take long to get an answer, as the Nittany Lions stormed out to a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back, ultimately winning 51-15.
Quarterback Drew Allar undoubtedly played the best game of his career Saturday. Statistically, he finished with 240 yards passing and four touchdowns, but it was the overall confidence and skill he showed that particularly stood out, as Allar made some of the best throws of his career against the Terps.
“Drew was comfortable moving through his progressions and using his eyes to open people,” Franklin said.

“It’s a win-win for everybody,” Franklin said when asked about Cephas’ breakout performance. “That’s what you want. You want Dante to have the type of success that he wants to have, in terms of helping our team be successful, having another guy that people have to worry about on film. It changes everything.”
Defensively, Manny Diaz’s squad put together one of the most dominant efforts in school history against the run, as the Terps finished with minus 49 yards rushing for the game. That’s the second-best in the history of Penn State’s program and by far the best in recent decades.
