Penn State head coach James Franklin spoke to the media after practice on Tuesday as the team begins the second half of training camp ahead of the 2024 season. While the team didn’t open practice up for the media to see on Tuesday, he answered questions about where the team stands, which was only 12 days before the first game week of the season.

Penn State quarterback update

Topics that came up in today’s press conference include the number of offensive linemen that the team wants to play in the first game, freshmen progress including Quinton Martin and Luke Reynolds, and more.

Despite the promise that Pribula would see the field in 2023, the backup quarterback only saw 134 snaps last season. Most of those snaps camp against Delaware in cleanup duty, where Pribual saw 28 plays on offense. His second stint on the field came later in the season against Rutgers when Allar left the game with an injury.

Season Opener is 18 days away

Penn State opens the season against West Virginia on the road in Morgantown to begin its 2024 campaign. The Nittany Lions start the year off 8th in the AP Poll, which if that ranking held, would give the team it’s first berth in the College Football Playoffs. The field expands to 12 this upcoming season at the same time that Big Ten field expanded to 18 teams, with the addition of the top schools from the Pac 12 this offseason.

We’ll begin our in-season coverage on Aug. 26 with James Franklin’s weekly press conference to kick off game week against West Virginia.
