Watch: Penn State quarterback Drew Allar recaps 24-15 loss to Michigan
Penn State was hoping for its first marquee win of the season Saturday, but for the third consecutive year, the Nittany Lions came up short against both Michigan and Ohio State, losing this one 24-15. Unlike the previous two years, quarterback Drew Allar got his first opportunity against the Big Ten’s two juggernauts this season. Although his performance on Saturday was better than a few weeks ago in Columbus, Allar and the Nittany Lions weren’t able to get the win, which is all that mattered in the end.
“Just not good enough overall,” Allar said, when asked about his performance. “Obviously, it’s not the outcome we wanted and just have to play better offensively. The defense did all they could today. We put them into a couple tough situations today. But yeah, just have to play better.”
Allar finished the game 10 of 22 for 70 yards passing and one touchdown. He was also much more aggressive rushing the ball, totaling 49 yards on 10 carries and one touchdown. However, one of those runs resulted in a fumble in the third quarter. Allar said that was the key moment in the game.
Highs & Lows: Penn State bottoms out offensively in Michigan loss
“That’s when the game changed to me, personally,” he said. “We were moving the ball. I think that was our second set of first downs, on the opening [the second half]. Just can’t put the ball on the ground. We gave them good field position. We were down five or something at the half and now we’re down eight because I put the ball on the ground and they were able to go down and kick a field goal.”

During his postgame press conference, Penn State head coach James Franklin defended his quarterback when asked about Allar’s performance, specifically noting that his staff has to do a better job getting Allar into a rhythm so he can gain confidence. When Allar was asked if he felt that was true, he pointed to himself and throws he missed.
“No. I missed plenty of throws today,” Allar said. “I think about the third and five at the end of the game. I threw it behind Kaden [Saunders]. He won on his route. I just have to put it in front of him and let him run after the catch.”
