What did Washington coach Jedd Fisch, Penn State players, say after the Lions win?
STATE COLLEGE — Washington coach Jedd Fisch tried to spark his offense at halftime of Saturday’s loss to Penn State by changing quarterbacks. It did not work well enough. Freshman Demond Williams Jr., did produce some positive plays for the Huskies over the final 30 minutes after taking over for Will Rogers with the visitors trailing 28-0, but not enough of them, as PSU ultimately beat UW 35-6.
“We had 70 yards of offense, 50 yards of passing,” Fisch said when asked about the change. “It was 28-0, and we weren’t really getting anything done other than the first drive. I thought that it was an opportunity to give Demond (Williams Jr.) a chance to play a full half of football that he hasn’t had the chance to do. I thought he did some really good things in the second half.”
Penn State beat up Washington from a physical stand point. The Lions dominated the line of scrimmage, netting five sacks and nine tackles for loss. The Huskies had neither a sack or TFL.
“Yes, this team has been recruited as a primarily Pac-12 team,” Fisch said. “It’s a huge adjustment. The Big 10 is a lot of physical big guards and defenders. As we continue to go eastward and play these games, as you can see the offensive and defensive lines are set about 1,100 pounds heavier than ours. It’s tough, we just got to get more physical.”
What did Penn State players say after the win?
Here’s a smattering of quotes courtesy of Penn State Athletics:
“To be in that conversation with as many great tight ends who have played here and that I played with is special to me. That’s kind of what makes it special, knowing the guys that have been here and how talented Penn State tight ends are. That’s kind of why it means so much to me.”

–PSU tight end Tyler Warren on setting the program single-season record for yards and receptions by a tight end.
“I think it comes down to execution. I believe in our game plan every week. There hasn’t been a week this year where I doubted the game plan going into the game. We just came out and started fast, executed the plays that Coach (Andy) Kotelnicki called, and took advantage of our opportunities when we got down into the red zone.”
–PSU QB Drew Allar on the Lions’ fast start.
“It is definitely a week to stack on, a week to improve on. We played good tonight, but even when we go back in the film room tomorrow, it’s going to be little things where we can get better at. We could have been even more dominant.”
–PSU DE Abdul Carter on his dominant performance.
“The big thing for us, especially us supporting backs and the running backs, were the third down pressures that they bring, like the third down packages, and being able to pick up any cobra plugs, anything like that. And we did a really good job with that. We did a really good job of getting open, and that’s what really helped us out today.”
–PSU OL Anthony Donkoh on the team’s 10 for 13 mark on third down.
