Penn State news, notes, and updates for Spet. 11 include the first point spread for the Illinois game, plus a new preferred walk-on offer and more.

It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with the initial point spread for Saturday’s Week 3 college football clash between Penn State and Illinois. DraftKings opened a look-ahead line of -12.5 last week. Now, however, FanDuel is first to market with an updated spread, and it lists the Lions as 14.5-point favorites. If the line holds, it would mark the 15th time that PSU is a double-digit road favorite in a Big Ten game during the James Franklin era. Eight of those instances have made the Lions at least a two-touchdown favorite.

Penn State is 2-0 after blasting Delaware 63-7. Illinois is 1-1 after falling to Kansas 34-23 in Week 2.

“This is a big week,” Bielema said after the loss to the Jayhawks. It’s a big week for us as a program. We’ve got to eliminate the stuff that gets you beat and put ourselves in a position to have success. We just can’t spot them points.

In other news, the Lions sent out a new preferred walk-on offer on Saturday. Ramsey, N.J., lineman Logan Bahn visited for the game and left with the chance to join the Penn State program. He stands 6-foot-6, 280 pounds.

Quote of the day

“Some things schematically we’re going to have to take a really close look at. When you play an early-season opponent, they have an entire year to look at your film. I think in the first two games it’s very evident that some of the things we need to do, especially on the defensive side of the ball, just look at closely what we’re doing, how we’re doing it and be able to make plays.”
