Penn State news and notes for Sept. 18 include the first point spread for the Lions’ matchup with Iowa plus wrestling updates and more.

It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with the opening point spread for the Lions’ matchup with Iowa. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. next Saturday on CBS. Penn State is a 14-point favorite at Circa Sports.. That is a widely accepted number across various U.S. betting sites. We’ll see if it changes moving forward. Late last week, DraftKings called the Lions a 13.5-point favorite. The one-point jump is likely tied to the unavailability of Hawkeyes start tight end Luke Lachey, who was hurt last week and seen in a walking boot later Saturday.

“At least we have some depth there,” Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said. “We do. The thing about injuries is just, as I’ve said a million times, it’s just guys work so hard to get out there in the field like that. Everything is focused on these 12 games, and the guys put a lot into it. To have them have opportunities stripped because of injuries, but it’s part of the game, too. So we all understand how that works, but, yeah, it’s disappointing.

“There’s not a better guy in our program than Luke Lachey. He’s just such a good young guy. Keep our fingers crossed.”

Quote of the day

“I think my mental game has gotten so much better since I got here. Especially because coach [James] Franklin does such a good job of putting pressure on us in practice. I’m just so confident in my mental game now and I know exactly what I need to do every time I go out there. I’ve really just simplified stuff over the years.”
