What time, channel, and date is Penn State-SMU on in the College Football Playoff?

No. 6 Penn State will host No. 11 SMU in one of four first round matchups in the first 12-team College Football Playoff. The Nittany Lions (11-2) and Mustangs (11-2) both played in their respective conference title games. PSU lost 45-37 to No. 1 seed Oregon. SMU lost to No. 12 seed Clemson 34-31. Head coach Rhett Lashlee held on to the final at-large spot over Alabama, who was the first team out of the field. When will the game be played?

Kickoff is set for Noon ET on Sat., Dec. 21. TNT will televise the game. Additional ticket information will come out in the days ahead now that the Lions know they will be having a game at Beaver Stadium. The opportunity to reserve season ticket holders and students has already come and gone.

First look at Penn State-SMU

SMU only had one loss in the regular season. It fell 18-15 to BYU back in September. Then, it ripped off nine straight wins to make its conference title game.

Quarterback Kevin Jennings took over under center after that loss to the Cougars and guided the team well from there. He completed 227 of 344 passes (66 percent) for 3,050 yards 22 touchdowns to eight sacks. Running back Brashard Smith has carried a team-high 217 times for 1,270 yards and 14 touchdowns. Jennings, who is a dual-threat quarterback, is next with 93 carriers for 379 yards and five scores.

Three Mustangs have at least 30 receptions on the year. Roderick Daniels Jr., is the leading receiver with 38 receptions for 599 yards. Key’Shawn Smith and Jordan Hudson both have five touchdown receptions.
