Head coach James Franklin’s team is 3-0 and opens Big Ten play this Saturday when it hosts Illinois at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC.  UCLA head coach DeShaun Foster’s side, meanwhile, beat Hawaii to open the 2024 season but then was blown out by Indiana at home before dropping a 34-17 decision to LSU last Saturday in Baton Rouge.

“The scoreboard is still the bottom line, but the fact that we are able to execute like I have seen us do in practice, it just feels good,” Foster told the school’s official website. “It’s a two-half game and it’s four quarters, and we showed up for two of them. When you are playing against a good team like that, you have to show up for all four.”

UCLA now faces Oregon at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., before traveling to State College. That game is set for 8 p.m. ET this Saturday on FOX.

More on Penn State-UCLA

Penn State and UCLA will be meeting for the first time since 1968. The Bruins actually hold a 4-2 all-time series edge over the Nittany Lions. PSU did win the last contest between the two sides, though, downing UCLA 21-6 in 1968 on the road. The schools plays every year between 1963 and 1968 and then never met again until now after the Bruins joined the Big Ten conference ahead of the 2024 season. Which, speaking of the 2024 season, inconsistent quarterback play and a defense that struggles to get stops has held the team back through four weeks.
