No. 3 Penn State heads to Wisconsin this weekend for its latest Big Ten clash. After the road trip to Madison closes out the October portion of its schedule, it will return to State College to start the final month of the regular season. It will do so when it hosts No. 4 Ohio State at Beaver Stadium on Nov. 2. On Monday, the Big Ten and its television partners assigned a kickoff time and television designation for that marquee conference matchup.

As long expected, FOX will televise the contest in its ‘B1G Noon Kickoff’ window. The game will start just after Noon ET. The network’s top crew of Gus Johnson (play-by-play), Joel Klatt (color commentary), and Jenny Taft (sideline reporter) will call the action from a sold-out Beaver Stadium. It’s not yet known if either FOX’s or ESPN’s pregame shows will be making the voyage to State College to air live on campus.

Penn State has a test to pass first

Before the Nittany Lions battle the Buckeyes, they will have to get by a surging Badgers team that has won its last three games by a combined score of 121-26. That game starts at 7:30 p.m. ET this Saturday on NBC.

“James Franklin’s Nittany Lions have raised their playoff odds the old-fashioned way: by grinding out wins,” Bill Connelly writes for ESPN. “They have yet to face an opponent in the SP+ top 25 — a run that will end with games against Wisconsin and Ohio State in the next two weeks — but they handed Illinois its only loss and came back from a poor start to win at USC. They’re sixth in SP+ and ninth in the FPI, which relegates them to “secondary contender” status, but they are still in great shape to land in the field of 12.

“Now really isn’t the best time to travel to Madison, though. Wisconsin has surged from 66th to 30th in SP+ after outscoring its past three opponents by a combined 121-16. If the Nittany Lions fall to both the Badgers and Buckeyes, their playoff odds will look very, very different in two weeks.”
