Happy college football selection Sunday, Penn State football fans. The Nittany Lions are now just hours away from learning where they will play in the postseason. Head coach James Franklin’s team finished the regular season at 10-2. It is at No. 10 in the penultimate College Football Playoff rankings. The committee’s final top 25, plus bowl game assignments, will be released this afternoon.

Franklin, his staff, and their players returned to the practice field on Tuesday for the first time since beating Michigan State 42-0 two Fridays ago at Ford Field to hit the double-digit win mark for the fifth time since 2014. They aim to reach 11 victories for the fifth time over that stretch when the 2023 version of the Lions takes the field for one final game together later this month.

“In house, we’ll watch a ton of recruiting film and get organized, going on the road and how we’re going to balance the schedule,” Franklin said after beating the Spartans whena asked about the program’s schedule between then and today. “All the bowl schedules are already set. We already have the calendars all set for where we would go and who we would play.

“I think we have three days scheduled to meet with every single player on the team by position coach, and then I’ll meet with some guys as well. And then obviously, we’ll start getting into some practicing and then kind of go from there. But meeting with our players is a priority. Watching recruiting film and getting organized, where we’re going and how we’re going to finish this class up the right way, also the transfer portal. We got to be all over those things.”

Get ready for selection Sunday below.

How can I watch the bowl game announcements and when will we learn where Penn State is going?

ESPN is again the flagship television network for the College Football Playoff reveal and bowl game assignments. The network will have coverage throughout the morning. But, the good stuff starts just after Noon ET. It’s then that the College Football Playoff teams will be revealed. Penn State fans may have an interest in watching that, of course. But, the Lions won’t be part of the show’s initial coverage.

Fans will want to tune in by about 2:25 p.m. ET, though. Halftime of the 1 o’ clock NFL games has typically served as a good timeline for when the New Year’s Six bowl game matchups will be announced. Penn State is hoping to hear its name called then, of course. Last year, the Lions’ trip to the Rose Bowl was unveiled at 2:39 p.m. ET. Its 2019 trip to the Cotton Bowl was not confirmed until about 3:10 p.m. ET. We will provide running updates throughout the day inside The Lions Den forum in terms of destination possibilities and announcement timelines.

If, for some reason, the Lions fall out of the NY6 mix, all remaining bowl assignments will come out after 4 p.m. ET.
