What time will the 2023 Penn State Blue-White game start on April 15?
The Penn State football program will hold its annual Blue-White game on Sat., April 15. A start time for it is now out. The Lions’ final spring practice in 2023 will begin at 2 p.m. ET at Beaver Stadium.
It is unclear whether or not the event will be televised. In past years, it has aired either live or on tape delay on the Big Ten Network.
Penn State has used its 15th spring practice in various ways during James Franklin’s tenure in State College. It was closed in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Last year, it featured an offense versus defense scrimmage format with special teams periods due to depth issues as opposed to the traditional blue versus white format. The scoring system has changed over the years, too, based on player availability and roster construction. More details will be made public about this year’s format at a later time.
A start date for spring practice has not yet been announced. But, after winter workouts conclude, the team will begin on-field drills in March.
Penn State is ready to springboard into 2023
Head coach James Franklin’s team finished the 2022 season at 11-2. The Lions capped it with a 35-21 with over Utah in the Rose Bowl earlier this month. It marked the 19th time a Penn State team has won 11 games or more and the fourth time that happened in the Franklin era. PSU finished No. 7 in the final Associated Press top 25 and the last Coaches Poll on Tuesday.

“I’m just proud of these guys,” Franklin said after the Lions beat the Utes. “I was here in 2016, one of the better Rose Bowl games, and watched somebody else celebrate, and I wanted this for them. I couldn’t have wrote the script any better for Sean Clifford to be the offensive MVP, and my man Tig to be the defensive MVP. It’s awesome, sending these guys out the right way, in a time in college football that I think it’s more challenging than ever.
“Just really proud of our guys. Offense, defense and special teams really played a really good, complete game.”
Numerous early top 25s are out ahead of the 2023 season. Penn State checked in as high as No. 4 and as low as No. 9 across various media outlets. The team returns roughly half of its starters from this past season’s team.
