Penn State football has picked a date for the 2024 Blue-White game. The annual intra-squad scrimmage at Beaver Stadium will be held on April 13, 2024, inside the 107,000-seat venue. It will serve as the program’s 15th and final practice of the spring, of course.

It “is tentatively scheduled to kick in the early to mid-afternoon,” a news release said. “More details about Blue-White Game, parking and related events will be announced following the conclusion of the 2023 football season.”

The Lions have long attracted huge crowds to State College for the first chance to see each year’s new team sometime in April. And, if you find yourself thinking that next year’s event is earlier than normal, you are right. While the progam has generally contested the Blue-White game on the third Saturday in April, it was forced to have it earlier this year. That’s because the spring contact period for recruiting starts on Mon., April 15. It goes without saying that head coach James Franklin and his staff will want to be on the road recruiting as early as they possibly can to work on the Class of 2025 while checking in on younger recruits. Thus, spring practice will begin earlier, as well. A date for that is not yet available, however.

Penn State fans will have plenty to see at the Blue-White game

At the very least, an enormous number of fans will fill the parking lots around Beaver Stadium and then the venue itself to see new offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki at work for the first time. The Lions are hiring him away from Kansas to replace Mike Yurcich. That news broke on Thursday. Kotelnicki will not have a role in the team’s bowl prep or game. The specifics of that contest will come out Sunday. But, he will have an opportunity to spend December evaluating the current members of the roster during practices. He can also help with recruiting. Franklin said when discussing the hiring process earlier this month that he hoped to have a new play caller in place sooner rather than later for that very reason.

By plucking Kotelnicki away from the Jayhawks before the December contact period even opens on Friday, he successfully accomplished his mission.
