Penn State hosts Washington next weekend for its annual White Out game at Beaver Stadium. The athletic department announced the game theme for its second home date in November months ago. However, we’ll have to wait a few more days to find out when it will start.

Kickoff will be at either 3:30 p.m. ET or 8 p.m. ET on a to-be-determined network, the Big Ten announced Monday. That means the game is on the six-day selection window, which allows the conference’s television partners to wait until six days before a game to make a decision. It’s likely that the confirmed start time won’t come until late this Saturday night

Speaking to reporters at Big Ten Media Days in July, PSU athletic director Pat Kraft detailed why the Huskies were picked as the White Out game opponent.

“We don’t land on any of this,” Kraft said. “I think we’d all know what we would choose if we were choosing a White Out game. This year became a little bit more difficult because of the three [television] networks and the [game] draft process…They picked the first slate of games that came out. And then it was going to a 12-day [in-season selection] window. That became a problem for us because of how big the White Out game is. It is the best, I believe, sporting event of the year. It’s remarkable. Our fans show out.

“[Big Ten Commissioner] Tony [Petitti] and [Big Ten Chief Operating Officer] Kerry [Kenny] and the Big Ten kind of helped us. We worked with FOX to not take the Washington game at Noon. We don’t know yet if it will be a 3:30 p.m. or 7 kick. That will go to the traditional window. But, we had to get something out. This is a late White Out [announcement]. We’d typically like to have it sooner. To Tony’s credit, he understands the importance of that game. So, we’re already starting to work on a process to make it a little bit more smooth.”

Washington is so far 4-4 on the season. It has lost its last two contests ahead of this weekend’s matchup with USC, which will be a defining game for both programs’ seasons, considering neither is playing as well as expected. The Huskies are led by quarterback Will Rogers, who has 2,022 passing yards this season and a 13-to-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
