Penn State tweets of the day

Two Penn State wrestlers moved up in InterMat’s latest rankings. And, one Nittany Lion is No. 1 in his weight class. Shayne Van Ness is now No. 3 at 149 pounds after taking out Kyle Parco of Iowa last weekend. The Hawkeye dropped to SVN’s old No. 4 spot. Then, at 157 pounds, sophomore Tyler Kasak is now the top-ranked grappler in his weight class after taking out former No. 1 Jacori Teemer with a bloody face last Friday night at the Bryce Jordan Center.

“He’s tough,” Lions coach Cael Sanderson said Monday. “Obviously, he’s a competitor. But, yeah, it was a pretty, nasty cut on his eye. We didn’t see it in live time but then you go back and look at it, there was pretty good contact. I think he caught a knee. I couldn’t see it because his hair’s so long. When the trainer pulled his hair up, you can see his eyebrow hanging down over his eye and split open.”

Here is the complete rundown of where the Lions are in the latest InterMat rankings. The number in paratheses is where each wrestler was last week:

125 pounds: Luke Lilledahl, No. 7 (7)

133 pounds: Braeden Davis, No. 7 (7)

141 pounds: Beau Bartlett, No. 3 (3)

149 pounds: Shayne Van Ness, No. 3 (4)

157 pounds: Tyler Kasak, No. 1 (3)

165 pounds: Mitchell Mesenbrink, No. 1 (1)

174 pounds: Levi Haines, No. 2 (2)

184 pounds: Carter Starocci, No. 1 (1)

197 pounds: Josh Barr, No. 4 (4)

285 pounds: Greg Kerkvliet, No. 2 (2)

Quote of the day

“I see it as so close, so close, right, and I think I can help,” Knowles said. “I think I can be of service. Once you get past maybe being young and think you’re going to be the head coach of the Packers, as you move forward, you start thinking about how can I be of service to a great team and be part of great team? And, this is the place. Becasue, everything here is so close to winning it all. And I’m hopeful that I can help get it there.”
