Penn State news, notes, and updates for Dec. 25 include new wrestling rankings, headlines of the day, and more. It’s time to dive into Wednesday’s top tweets and stories bout the Nittany Lions and college athletics. And, we wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Holidays!

Penn State tweets of the day

Penn State won 29 of 30 bouts at last Sunday’s Collegiate Wrestling Duals. With three straight match victories, they set a new program record with 62 consecutive triumphs and continue to chase the all-time mark of 76 straight sets by Oklahoma State. Head coach Cael Sanderson’s team last lost a dual meet in 2020 and the current 62-straight wins broke the 60-win mark that was set by previous Sanderson teams until the 2019 version lost to Arizona State.

With that bit of housekeeping out of the way, here is where each Penn State starter currently sits in the latest InterMat rankings. The Lions continue to be the No. 1 team in both its tournament and dual rankings. The number in parentheses indicates where the wrestler was last week. The biggest movers are sophomore Braeden Davis, who made a five-spot bump after beating formerly No. 5 Nasir Bailey of Little Rock at 133 pounds, and redshirt freshman Josh Barr, who rose into the top five at 197 pounds after beating previously No. 5 Stephen Little of Little Rock.

Quote of the day

“I think it’s very important. I’ve been super lucky to have great quarterbacks throughout my years. So just having another one like Drew to be able to throw to me is very key, especially for a receiver. Drew’s gonna be a high draft pick next year. So just having him be the quarterback throwing to me, you’re gonna get a lot of eyes coming into practice, into the game. So it’s definitely cool to have him wanting to return this year. It’s going to be a vital tool.”
