Penn State has signed 22 Class of 2023 recruits so far. The Lions inked all of them on Wednesday during the first day of the early signing period, which ends Friday night.

Head coach James Franklin’s team had limited negative drama in the weeks and days leading up to Dec. 21. However, it did lose Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., St. Thomas Aquinas four-star safety Conrad Hussey to Florida State on Thursday night after he delayed his signing one day.

All told, though, this class has long been signed, sealed, and delivered, for the most part. However, some former members of the group decided to move on and go elsewhere. Where did they go? And, when did each signee actually commit to Penn State?

We break it down in the timeline below.

Where did each Penn State decommit end up?

Penn State had a total of eight decommitments in this cycle. However, one ended up back with the Nittany Lions.

Mathias ‘Mega” Barnwell was the first recruit to back away from his Lions pledge. The four-star athlete who will start his career at tight end first picked PSU on June 8, 2020. However, he decommitted on Jan. 20, 2021, only to re-commit Sept. 25, 2021. Barnwell never wavered from there.

“As you guys know, Mega committed to us like in fourth grade,” James Franklin said on Wednesday. “We tried to convince him not to commit. When he committed, wanted to make sure they were comfortable, truly knew what that was. I think it was actually ninth grade.

“His eyes started to wander in 10th grade, then committed back to us, which doesn’t always happen. I think obviously we’ve been able to get to know him and the family really well.”

Neeo Avery, a four-star tight end from Maryland, picked Penn State on Dec. 31, 2021. However, he was the next player to leave the class, as he decommitted from the Lions on March 27, 2022. He later gave a verbal declaration to Ole Miss commit on July 27, 2022. But, on signing day, he flipped to and signed with Maryland.

Joshua Miller, a three-star interior offensive lineman from Virginia, committed to PSU on Dec. 20, 2021. However, he decommitted on June 12, 2022 and flipped to Georgia. He has signed with the Bulldogs.

Marcus Stokes, a three-star quarterback from Florida, came to the PSU class on April 8, 2022. However, he left it and flipped to Florida on July 7, 2022. He is no longer with the Gators, though, and his future home is unclear.

Yazeed Haynes, a three-star receiver from Pennsylvania, joined the Lions on June 12, 2022. However, he flipped to Georgia on July 27, 2022 and signed with the SEC program.

Tomarrion Parker, a four-star defensive end from Alabama, picked Penn State on June 21, 2022. He later decommitted on Aug. 9, 2022. He is now a Clemson signee after he committed to the ACC school on Nov. 21, 2022, and signed with it Wednesday. Parker is perhaps the biggest loss of the seven who landed elsewhere.

Ejani Shakir, a four-star receiver from New Jersey, and Penn State parted ways on Nov. 20, 2022. He originally committed to the Lions on May 11, 2022. He has not yet committed to or signed with another college.

Conrad Hussey, a four-star safety from Florida, flipped from the Lions to Florida State on Dec. 22, 2022 after committing to them on April 25, 2022.
