Penn State picked up commitment No. 14 in its Class of 2025 Monday afternoon, adding cornerback Daryus Dixson from Mater Dei High School in California. A four-star prospect in On3’s Industry Rankings, Dixson is now the top-ranked player in PSU’s class, coming in at No. 135 nationally. He’s also the sixth player in the class to earn a four-star rating in the Industry rankings.

The addition of Dixson also moved Penn State up two spots in On3’s Team Rankings. The Lions came into the day with an overall class grade of 89.647. That’s now up to 90.160, which puts Penn State fourth overall in the Big Ten and No. 14 in the nation. Ohio State, USC and Oregon all currently rank in the top 10 nationally.

Understanding On3’s Team Rankings

For those unfamiliar with On3’s Team Rankings, there are two major differences compared to other sites that you need to know.

1) We use the Industry Rankings, which puts together all four major recruiting sites – On3, 247, Rivals and ESPN – to find a cumulative score for each prospect. It’s not just based on On3’s rankings.

2) On3’s Team Recruiting Rankings solve the problem of varying class sizes during the recruiting cycle by totaling the highest-rated commitments for each team based on a rolling average of current total commitments among Power Four schools. That average is now up to nine prospects currently.

So, if you’re wondering why Penn State ranks lower at On3 when compared to sits like 247 and Rivals, it’s because we’re aiming to project which position the Nittany Lions are on pace to finish come National Signing Day.

Of the 14 players the Buckeyes have committed, three of them are considered five-star prospects, with nine more holding a four-star rating. Eight of its commits rank inside the top 100 overall, including recent additions like running back Bo Jackson and safety Faheem Delane.

USC has also put together a very strong class that ranks No. 3 nationally. The Trojans have five players who rank in the top 100 nationally, most notably defensive lineman Justus Terry and quarterback Julian Lewis. Both Terry and Lewis are among the 10 best players in the country. USC also picked up a commitment from four-star defensive end Hayden Lowe on Sunday.

Oregon isn’t far behind those two at No. 8 nationally. The Ducks only have eight commitments so far, but all of them hold either a four or five-star rating. Dan Lanning and his staff also just picked up a commitment Monday from one of Penn State’s top offensive line targets, Ziyare Addison. Quarterback Akili Smith Jr. and wide receiver Dallas Wilson headline the class.

Behind Penn State, you’ll find Michigan (No. 18), Wisconsin (No. 21) and Rutgers (No. 23) all inside the Top 25 of the Team Rankings. The Wolverines still hold just five commitments total, with four-star offensive lineman Avery Gach being the most recent to decide in May. The Badgers are up to 15 commitments total, including four-star prospects Jaimier Scott and Cameron Miller, both of whom Penn State looked at earlier in the cycle.

The Scarlett Knights actually have the most commitments in the class now with 20 total. After picking up four-star Chase Linton last weekend, Rutgers added another four-star on Sunday with the addition of Tariq Hayer. They’ve landed a dozen players total since the start of June.
