Penn State reached 20 commitments in its Class of 2025 Friday evening following the addition of Maryland wide receiver Jeff Exinor. Ranked No. 351 nationally in On3’s Industry Rankings, Exinor is the second four-star receiver to join the class. The Nittany Lions also now have an even split of four- and three-star players with 10 each.

Penn State reached as high as No. 11 in On3’s Team Rankings just the other day following the addition of Jayden Woods with a 90.225 overall class score. That’s now up to a 90.298, but with both Florida State and Tennessee picking up key commitments of their own on Friday, that bumped PSU down to No. 13 nationally. The Nittany Lions still have the third-ranked class in the Big Ten behind Ohio State (No. 1 nationally) and Oregon (No. 6).

Understanding On3’s Team Rankings

For those unfamiliar with On3’s Team Rankings, there are two major differences compared to other sites that you need to know.

1) We use the Industry Rankings, which puts together all four major recruiting sites – On3, 247, Rivals and ESPN – to find a cumulative score for each prospect. It’s not just based on On3’s rankings.

2) On3’s Team Recruiting Rankings solve the problem of varying class sizes during the recruiting cycle by totaling the highest-rated commitments for each team based on a rolling average of current total commitments among Power Four schools. That average is now up to 13 prospects currently.

So, if you’re wondering why Penn State ranks lower at On3 when compared to sits like 247 and Rivals, it’s because we’re aiming to project where the Nittany Lions are on pace to finish come National Signing Day.

Around the Big Ten

To say recruiting has been busy the past few days in the Big Ten would be an understatement.

At the top, Ohio State has added two more commitments since Thursday, locking up four-star defensive lineman Trajen Odom and three-star tight end Brody Lennon. At one point, Lennon looked to be leaning in Penn State’s direction, but once the Ohio native picked up an offer from his in-state school, that commitment felt inevitable. The Buckeyes now have 21 commitments total, including 10 prospects who rank among the Top 100 nationally.

Oregon has been busy as well, adding three new commitments this week. Penn State fans are well aware of cornerback Brandon Finney’s decision to join the Ducks earlier this week, but they’ve also since added running back Jordon Davison from Mater Dei and defensive lineman Josiah Sharma. All three players are considered four-star prospects in the Industry Rankings. The Ducks have one five-star and 10 four-star prospects in a class of just 12 players.

However, everything hasn’t been going great for USC, as the Trojans lost another elite prospect Friday in safety Hylton Stubbs. That comes after two five-star defensive linemen, Isaiah Gibson and Justus Terry, decommitted earlier this month. The Trojans sit at 11 commitments currently and have dropped from as high as No. 3 in the nation to No. 16 now.

USC’s struggles now make Michigan the fourth-ranked class in the Big Ten at No. 14 nationally with 12 commitments total. The Wolverines have picked up seven new commitments in June, four of which have come in the past few days, including four-star prospects Donovan Johnson and Jacob Washington.

Rutgers (No. 19) and Wisconsin (No. 21) also rank among the Top 25 nationally. The Scarlett Knights are up to 28 commitments following DJ McClary’s decision to flip. They also have six four-star players committed. The Badgers have earned commitments from five four-star prospects and hold 21 commitments total.
