Where does Penn State rank in the 2025 Team Recruiting Rankings following Max Granville's commitment?
Penn State picked up commitment No. 18 Monday evening following the addition of Texas native Max Granville. A four-star prospect on all four major recruiting sites, Granville is ranked No. 167 in the nation according to On3’s Industry Rankings, making him the second-ranked player in the class now behind only cornerback Daryus Dixson.
That commitment boasted Penn State’s Class of 2025 back into the 90s when it comes to the overall grade, as the Nittany Lions jumped from an 89.865 to a 90.104. With so many commitments happening across the country, PSU has climbed as high as No. 12 nationally and dropped as low as No. 15 in recent days. Granville’s commitment now has the class at No. 13 overall in On3’s Team Rankings, which rates the class fourth in the Big Ten behind Ohio State, Oregon and USC. Michigan is also just behind Penn State at No. 14 nationally with a grade of 90.056.
Understanding On3’s Team Rankings
For those unfamiliar with On3’s Team Rankings, there are two major differences compared to other sites that you need to know.
1) We use the Industry Rankings, which puts together all four major recruiting sites – On3, 247, Rivals and ESPN – to find a cumulative score for each prospect. It’s not just based on On3’s rankings.
2) On3’s Team Recruiting Rankings solve the problem of varying class sizes during the recruiting cycle by totaling the highest-rated commitments for each team based on a rolling average of current total commitments among Power Four schools. That average is now up to 12 prospects currently.
So, if you’re wondering why Penn State ranks lower at On3 when compared to sits like 247 and Rivals, it’s because we’re aiming to project which position the Nittany Lions are on pace to finish come National Signing Day.

Oregon remains the second-ranked team in the conference and No. 8 overall nationally. The Ducks have nine commitments so far and all but one of them have earned either a four or five-star rating. Quarterback Akili Smith Jr. and wide receiver Dallas Wilson headline the class. The Ducks also added one of Penn State’s top targets, offensive tackle Ziyare Addison, back on June 10
USC has held firm with 11 commitments after losing two five-star defensive linemen from Georgia, Isaiah Gibson and Justus Terry, just a week ago. That dropped the Trojans from No. 4 overall nationally all the way to No. 11. They still have three Top 100 prospects in the class in quarterback Julian Lewis, safety Hylton Stubbs and linebacker Matai Tagoa’i.
