Where does Penn State now rank in the 2025 Team Recruiting Rankings?
Penn State’s Class of 2025 is now ranked fourth in the Big Ten and No. 17 nationally following On3’s updated rankings on Monday. With 21 commitments now in the class, the Nittany Lions dropped a few spots from No. 14 back on Sunday, albeit by very small margins.
Both Missouri and Tennessee made a small move upward following a few changes in the ratings, barely edging out Penn State. In fact, the class scores from No. 14 Texas (90.134) to No. 17 Penn State (90.022) are separated by just 0.112. That’s the smallest margin of separation by four schools or more anywhere within the Top 50 of On3’s Team Rankings at the moment.
So far, Penn State has added commitments from 11 four-star players and 10 three-star players in the class. Ohio State (94.314) and Oregon (92.466) both rank substantially higher than the rest of the conference, with the Buckeyes currently ranked No. 1 nationally and Oregon just behind them at No. 4. Michigan’s class also now ranks ahead of Penn State following two Top 100 commitments on Monday evening. The Wolverines are up to No. 11 nationally.
Understanding On3’s Team Rankings
For those unfamiliar with On3’s Team Rankings, there are two major differences compared to other sites that you need to know.
1) We use the Industry Rankings, which puts together all four major recruiting sites – On3, 247, Rivals and ESPN – to find a cumulative score for each prospect. It’s not just based on On3’s rankings.
2) On3’s Team Recruiting Rankings solve the problem of varying class sizes during the recruiting cycle by totaling the highest-rated commitments for each team based on a rolling average of current total commitments among Power Four schools. That average is now up to 15 prospects currently.
So, if you’re wondering why Penn State ranks lower at On3 when compared to sites like 247 and Rivals, it’s because we’re aiming to project where the Nittany Lions are on pace to finish come National Signing Day.

Since adding cornerback Brandon Finney back on June 25, Oregon has added a handful of players to its Class of 2025. The most notable addition came on July 4 when the nation’s top-ranked wide receiver, Dakorien Moore, confirmed his commitment to the Ducks. Cornerback Dorian Brew, tight end DaSaahn Brame and running back Jordon Davison also all rank among the Top 150 nationally. Out of the 15 players who have committed to Oregon, all but one of them hold either a four- or five-star rating.
As noted above, Michigan made a big move just last night, climbing from No. 17 nationally all the way to No. 11 with the addition of two Top 100 prospects. In addition to landing tight end Andrew Olesh, the Wolverines also flipped former Notre Dame safety commit Ivan Taylor. Michigan has 12 four-star commitments out of 15 players now in its class. They’ve added 10 new prospects to the class since June 10.

USC has lost three Top 100 prospects over the past month, including two five-star players, but they did pick up a quality commitment back on June 30 from wide receiver Corey Simms. The Trojans sit at 13 commitments currently but have dropped from as high as No. 3 in the nation to No. 18 now.
Both Rutgers (No. 19) and Wisconsin (No. 22) also rank among the Top 25 nationally. The Scarlett Knights are up to 29 commitments following the addition of Kamar Archie on July 5. Wisconsin also picked up a four-star commitment last Monday, July 1, with the addition of Massachusetts offensive lineman Hardy Watts.
