Where does Penn State rank in the Week 8 Associated Press Poll?
Penn State improved to No. 3 in the updated Associated Press Poll following the win over USC Saturday in Los Angeles.
The Nittany Lions erased a 14-point halftime deficit to get the win. That included scores on four of their final six drives of the game, including three touchdowns, before ultimately needing just a field goal to win in overtime to seal it.
Penn State is now one of three Big Ten schools that remain undefeated on the season, joining Oregon and Indiana. The Ducks pulled out an epic win last night against Ohio State, winning 32-31. The Buckeyes had an opportunity to win late but poor clock management ultimately doomed Ryan Day and his team. However, the loss didn’t hurt Ohio State much in the polls, dropping just two spots to No. 4. Oregon is just ahead of Penn State at No. 2.
With Michigan (No. 24) and Indiana (No. 16) both having the week off, Illinois was the only other Top 25 team in action this weekend. The Fighting Illini took a 27-3 lead early in the third quarter but then allowed 17 unanswered points to Purdue to bring the game within a score. Just like in LA, a wild fourth quarter eventually led to overtime. However, a failed two-point conversion ultimately saw the Boilermakers come up short. Illinois is now at No. 22 in the AP Poll.
