Where does Penn State rank in the updated Coaches Poll?
Penn State had the opportunity to make a statement Saturday, storming out to a 10-0 lead against Ohio State in a top-five showdown that had the entire nation tuned in. Unfortunately for Nittany Lion fans, it didn’t turn out the way they had hoped, falling 20-13 for their first loss of the season.
With four weeks remaining in the regular season, the College Football Playoff Poll is set to be released for the first time this upcoming Tuesday, Nov. 5, but we got a taste of where Penn State may end up Sunday afternoon, with James Franklin’s team dropping to No. 7 in the Coaches Poll.
With home games against Washington (Nov. 9) and Maryland (Nov. 30) sandwiching two more away games against Purdue (Nov. 16) and Minnesota (Nov. 23), Penn State still has everything to play for. However, with Illinois also losing Saturday at home to Minnesota, the Nittany Lions no longer have a Top 25 win on the season, meaning they can’t afford a slip-up if they still hope to make this year’s 12-team playoff.
“The reality of college football is everything is still ahead of us, and we got to do a great job of making the corrections, eliminating the things that were unforced errors that happened today. And then we’ve got to find a way to get a win next week at home. Everything is still in front of us,” Franklin said after the game.
Elsewhere in the Big Ten, Oregon remains the top-ranked team in the country following its 38-17 win over Michigan in Ann Arbor. The Ducks outgained the Wolverines 470 yards to 270.

Indiana also improved its position, moving up three spots to No. 10. The Hoosiers spotted Michigan State a 10-point lead in the first quarter but managed to score 47 unanswered on the road after that. They also outgained the Spartans 385 yards to just 193, proving once again that the Hoosiers are a serious playoff contender.
