Penn State hasn’t had too many 14-point comebacks in recent years, but the Nittany Lions managed to do just that Saturday in Los Angeles, defeating USC 33-30 in overtime. The win, combined with other results, allowed PSU to once again climb in the Coaches Poll to No. 3 nationally. That’s up two spots from last week.

James Franklin’s team only had the lead for 15 seconds early in the first quarter, but as they’ve done all season, the Nittany Lions rallied in the second half. That included an impressive 12-play, 75-yard drive with under six minutes to play to tie the game up and ultimately send it to overtime. A defensive stop and missed field goal during USC’s possession in overtime then gave Penn State the opportunity to seal the comeback.

Elsewhere in the Big Ten, all eyes were on Eugene, Ore., last night, and the game didn’t disappoint, as Oregon pulled off the upset over Ohio State, 32-31. That allowed the Ducks to move up to No. 2 in the Coaches Poll, while Ohio State only dropped a few spots to No. 5.

With Michigan (No. 22) and Indiana (No. 18) both having the week off, Illinois was the only other Top 25 team in action this weekend. The Fighting Illini took a 27-3 lead early in the third quarter but then allowed 17 unanswered points to Purdue to bring the game within a score. Just like in LA, a wild fourth quarter eventually led to overtime. However, a failed two-point conversion ultimately saw the Boilermakers come up short. Illinois is now at No. 21 in the Coaches Poll.
