Penn State spent four straight weeks at No. 7 in the Associated Press Poll before moving up a spot to No. 6 in Week 5. Now, despite Texas losing to Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry, Penn State head coach James Franklin and his team remain at No. 6. That’s because Oklahoma ended up leapfrogging the Nittany Lions, climbing seven spots to No. 5 overall.

Elsewhere in the Big Ten, both Ohio State and Michigan remain unbeaten. The Wolverines came into the week ranked No. 2 and held firm, while Ohio State moved up one spot to No. 3 overall. The Buckeyes had a bit of a scare in the first half of their game against Maryland, as the Terps even took the lead early in the second half. Ryan Day’s team eventually flipped the switch though in the third and fourth quarters, scoring 27 unanswered points in the final 25 minutes of play.

So far, Michigan looks like the most complete team in the Big Ten East, romping another conference opponent Saturday in Minnesota. The Wolverines not only won 52-10, but they also outgained the Gophers 432 to just 169 in the battle for the Little Brown Jug.

Unlike in the Coaches Poll, the AP Poll has Wisconsin as the closest Big Ten program to cracking the poll. The Badgers earned 41 votes this week. In the Coaches Poll, both Iowa and Maryland received more votes. It should also be noted that Penn State’s season-opening opponent, West Virginia, is also now receiving votes. The Mountaineers have won four straight since losing at Beaver Stadium.
