Penn State moves up in Week 10 Coaches Poll following win over Indiana
Penn State came into Saturday’s game against Indiana as 32-point favorites against a Hoosiers squad that’s yet to get a win in conference play. James Franklin and his team ultimately avoided the upset, but the Nittany Lions needed a late score to pull out a 33-24 win over Indiana at home.
With Oklahoma, who was previously ranked sixth nationally, losing on the road to Kansas, that allowed the Nittany Lions to move up one spot in the Week 10 Coaches Poll, improving to No. 9 nationally. Each of the other eight teams ahead of Penn State either won or had a bye week.
There are now five schools at the Power Five level that remain undefeated, with Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Florida State and Washington all controlling their own destiny to make the College Football Playoffs. The first of those rankings, which determines not only the CFP but the remaining New Year’s Six Bowls, is set to be released on Tuesday, Oct. 31.
The Big Ten remains at just three schools within the Top 25, as Michigan and Ohio State both held firm at second and third, respectively. Iowa is sixth in the receiving votes category.
It was a tough week for the Pac-12 and the ACC, as Utah, Oregon State and North Carolina all dropped in the poll this week, while Duke dropped out altogether.
