Penn State defensive end Amin Vanover (15) celebrates after the Nittany Lions made a stop on fourth down during an NCAA football game against Rutgers Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, in State College, Pa.

Saturday went as expected for Penn State, as the Nittany Lions defeated Rutgers 27-6. Despite an injury to starting quarterback Drew Allar, backup Beau Pribula led Penn State to 17 unanswered points in the second half, including two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

You won’t find many upsets among the nation’s best schools yesterday, but Oregon State did lose to Washington. The Beavers came into the weekend ranked No. 10 overall but have now dropped to No. 15. Because of that, head coach James Franklin and his team will head into Friday’s game against Michigan State at No. 11 in the Coaches Poll. The Nittany Lions are currently a 20.5-point favorite against the Spartans. Michigan State defeated Indiana Saturday but won’t be going to a bowl game this season.

Elsewhere in the Big Ten, both Michigan and Ohio State are undefeated at 11-0 before facing off Saturday in Ann Arbor. The Buckeyes had no problems getting past Minnesota, winning 37-3. That moved them ahead of the Wolverines to No. 2 in the Coaches Poll.

Michigan, who’s now No. 3 overall, got its 1,000 win all-time by defeating Maryland, but it wasn’t as easy as some may have expected, with the Wolverines winning 31-24. Iowa, who was previously ranked No. 23 in the poll, locked up the Big Ten West with a 15-13 win over Illinois. The Hawkeyes are now up to No. 19 in the Coaches Poll.

You will find much more movement in the bottom half of the poll, as Utah, North Carolina and James Madison all lost on Saturday. The Utes were beaten handily by Arizona, 42-18, while North Carolina lost on the road to Clemson, 31-20. James Madison came into its game against Appalachian State undefeated at 10-0, but ultimately lost in overtime, 26-23.
