Penn State’s biggest week of the 2023 season is officially here.

Heading into this weekend’s road trip to Columbus to take on Ohio State, James Franklin and his team dropped one spot to No. 6 nationally in the Coaches Poll. With the Buckeyes remaining at No. 3 overall following its win over Purdue, it sets up the biggest matchup between the two college football bluebloods since 2017. Ohio State came into that game ranked No. 6 in the nation while Penn State was No. 2.

Elsewhere in the latest Coaches Poll, not much changed among the nation’s top seven schools. With both USC and Oregon losing Saturday night, the two soon-to-be Big Ten programs dropped in the poll, with Oregon down to No. 11 and USC down to No. 16. Washington’s win over the Ducks leaped them ahead of the Nittany Lions to No. 5. Notre Dame also moved up three spots with its win over the Trojans.

Further down, the Big Ten did add a fourth team to the poll, as Iowa is no No. 23 overall, representing Penn State’s best win of the season so far. The Hawkeyes defeated Wisconsin 15-6 and are now the team to beat in the Big Ten West.
