Penn State Lands Its Top Recruit Left Uncommitted In 2025, Malachi Goodman

Penn State picked up commitment No. 25 in its Class of 2025 Thursday with the addition of offensive tackle prospect Malachi Goodman.

A four-star prospect according to On3’s Industry Rankings, Goodman is ranked No. 130 nationally, making him the top-ranked player in Penn State’s class now. He’s also the fourth-ranked player in New Jersey and the nation’s 11th-ranked tackle prospect overall in the 2025 class.

The addition of Goodman also moved Penn State up one spot in On3’s Team Rankings, climbing to No. 16 nationally with an overall class grade of 90.080. The Nittany Lions now have 13 four-star prospects in the class and 12 three-star prospects.

Understanding On3’s Team Rankings

For those unfamiliar with On3’s Team Rankings, there are two major differences compared to other sites that you need to know.

1) We use the Industry Rankings, which puts together all four major recruiting sites – On3, 247, Rivals and ESPN – to find a cumulative score for each prospect. It’s not just based on On3’s rankings.

2) On3’s Team Recruiting Rankings solve the problem of varying class sizes during the recruiting cycle by totaling the highest-rated commitments for each team based on a rolling average of current total commitments among Power Four schools. That average is currently at 17 prospects.

So, if you’re wondering why Penn State ranks lower at On3 when compared to sites like 247 and Rivals, it’s because we’re aiming to project where the Nittany Lions are on pace to finish come National Signing Day.

Around the Big Ten

Alabama briefly passed Ohio State as the top overall team in On3’s Team Rankings in July, but the Buckeyes once again have the top-ranked class nationally with 26 commitments total. Ryan Day and his staff are on pace for a very impressive class, as 10 of those 26 players are ranked inside the Top 100 nationally. They also hold three commitments from the nation’s Top 10 players: Quarterback Tavien St. Clair, as well as cornerbacks Devin Sanchez and Na’eem Offord.

Three Things: Penn State flips top receiver target Matthew Outten

You’ll find Oregon at No. 2 overall in the conference, although the Ducks have dropped quite a bit in recent months to No. 8 nationally. With 15 commitments total, Oregon is the only other Big Ten program that sits inside the Top 10 currently. Each of the other eight schools play in the SEC.

You’ll find Michigan, Penn State and USC all in a similar position currently, with the Wolverines at No. 15 nationally and the Trojans just behind PSU at No. 17. Michigan is up to 16 commitments total with 13 four-star prospects. Lincoln Riley’s squad has one five-star and 10 four-star prospects out of the 18 players who have committed so far.

You’ll also find Washington, Rutgers and Wisconsin rounding out the Big Ten schools among the Top 25 nationally. The Huskies surged up the rankings throughout the summer, adding nearly two-thirds of its class since official visits ended in June. Jedd Fisch’s team is currently ranked No. 21 nationally.

Rutgers holds 29 commitments, but just four of them are four-star players. The Scarlet Knights are ranked No. 24 overall, while the Badgers are just behind them at No. 25. Wisconsin holds commitments from 23 players, six of whom are four-star prospects.
