Penn State heads into Week 11 of the college football season ranked No. 9 nationally in both the Associated Press Poll and the Coaches Poll. However, those two polls don’t matter all that much anymore now that the 2023-2024 College Football Playoff Poll has been released.

Last week, the first of six updates was released with the Nittany Lions coming in at No. 11. Now, following back-to-back losses for Oklahoma, that’s moved Penn State up one spot to No. 10 following a dominant road win over Maryland, 51-15.

Similar to both the AP and Coaches Polls, the Big Ten has three teams in the top 10, with both Ohio State and Michigan at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively. Although the Buckeyes already got the best of Penn State, the Nittany Lions still have the opportunity for a marquee win this weekend when the Wolverines come to Beaver Stadium. The Lions are currently a 4.5-point underdog. If they are able to upset Michigan, Penn State will find itself right back in the mix for a potential Big Ten championship birth.

Elsewhere in the poll, you won’t find any real changes ahead of the Nittany Lions aside from Ole Miss moving up to No. 9 to replace Oklahoma. The other eight spots all remain the same. It is notable that the Big Ten does now have a fourth team inside the poll as Iowa now ranks No. 22. If the Nittany Lions are able to beat Michigan, what happens with Hawkeyes down the stretch could have a real impact on Penn State with a potential tiebreaker coming down to which East Division team played the best teams in the West.

Moving forward, the College Football Playoff Selection Committee will release its updated rankings every Tuesday evening in November. Next week’s release will come a few hours later than normal, as ESPN is set to air the State Farm Champions Classic from Chicago that same night. The release will come between the two basketball games at roughly 9 p.m. ET.
