Penn State stays at No. 7 nationally in updated AP Top 25
Penn State is back at No. 7 nationally in the updated Associated Press Poll for Week 2 of the college football season. Just like the Coaches Poll, most of the movement was in the back half of the poll, although there is a bit more to talk about at the top of the AP Top 25.
Florida State, following its win over LSU, moved up four spots to No. 4 in the country. Alabama also moved up one spot to No. 3, while Ohio State dropped two spots to No. 5. The other four schools in the top seven – Georgia (No. 1), Michigan (No. 2), USC (No. 6) and Penn State (No. 7) – all stayed the same.
It’s the middle tier of the poll that saw most of the movement. Washington, Tennessee and Notre Dame all moved up multiple spots to crack the Top 10 in the nation. Texas held firm at No. 11 overall, while Utah, Oregon, Oregon State, North Carolina and Oklahoma also moved up at least two spots or more. The Tar Heels were the biggest mover, climbing four spots to No. 17 following a win over South Carolina.
The two biggest losers were LSU and Clemson. Brian Kelly’s team dropped nine spots to No. 14 overall, while Clemson dropped 16 spots to No. 25 nationally. Duke and Colorado are also both in the Top 25 now at No. 21 and No. 22, respectively.
