Where does Penn State rank in the updated Coaches Poll?
Following last week’s season opener against West Virginia, Penn State hosted an FCS opponent Saturday in Delaware. The result went as expected, as the Nittany Lions racked up over 60 points in a 63-7 win over the Blue Hens. Penn State totaled 541 yards of offense while holding Delaware to just 140 yards. Head coach James Franklin took the opportunity to play many of his young players, too, as more than 70 players contibuted on offense and defense.
Elsewhere in college football, Texas’ upset of Alabama was the biggest story of the weekend. It looked as if Penn State might move up a spot in the Coaches Poll because of that, but that did not happen, as the Longhorns leapfrogged the Nittany Lions, keeping Penn State at No. 7 overall. The Crimson Tide dropped to No. 10. Florida State also moved up No. 3, while USC moved up one spot to No. 5.
In the Big Ten, both Michigan and Ohio State remain ahead of the Nittany Lions at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively. There was some movement toward the bottom, however, as Wisconsin dropped out after losing to Washington State, 31-24. Iowa is back in the poll at No. 24. The defeated in-state rival Iowa State.
