Penn State suffered its first loss of the season Saturday against Ohio State, but as both the Coaches Poll and the AP Poll made it clear Sunday, the Nittany Lions still have everything to play for, dropping just three spots to No. 6 in the AP Poll.

Of course, Tuesday night’s release of the first College Football Playoff Poll is what fans will be most anxious to see this week, as the committee will be tasked with ranking this year’s top programs for a 12-team playoff for the first time. However, with home games against Washington (Nov. 9) and Maryland (Nov. 30) sandwiching two more away games against Purdue (Nov. 16) and Minnesota (Nov. 23), Penn State has a real opportunity to finish 11-1 on the season. That would all but assure that James Franklin’s team would host a first-round playoff game in December.

“The reality of college football is everything is still ahead of us, and we got to do a great job of making the corrections, eliminating the things that were unforced errors that happened today. And then we’ve got to find a way to get a win next week at home. Everything is still in front of us,” Franklin said after the game.

Elsewhere in the Big Ten, Oregon remains the No. 1 ranked team in the country following an impressive win on the road against Michigan. Indiana also moved up multiple spots to No. 8 in the poll following its 47-10 win on the road against Michigan State. The Big Ten did drop from five ranked teams to four, however, as Illinois lost at home to Minnesota. The Fighting Illini were previously Penn State’s only Top 25 win of the season.
