Penn State remained at No. 4 in the Associated Press Poll following its ninth win of the season Saturday against Purdue. The Nittany Lions came into the game as roughly 30-point favorites and they looked the part for much of the game on both sides of the ball. Head coach James Franklin said afterward that he thought Saturday’s performance was his team’s best of the season.

“I thought that was the best game we played overall, in terms of four quarters, offense, defense, special teams, complimentary football,” Franklin said. “We were able to play 68 players in the game, which is great and is really going to help us from an experience standpoint.

With Indiana off this week, both Oregon and Ohio State won on Saturday, although the Ducks needed ten unanswered points in the fourth quarter to escape Madison with a win over Wisconsin. The Buckeyes had no issues on the road, handling Northwestern at Wrigley Field. The Big Ten also now has a fifth team in the AP Poll, as Illinois rejoined at No. 24. With games against Rutgers and Northwestern remaining, the Fighting Illini should finish 9-3 and represent Penn State’s best win of the season.

Elsewhere, BYU suffered its first loss of the season to Kansas at home, 17-13. The Big 12 has four teams still alive to potentially earn that automatic bid by winning their conference championship. Arizona State and BYU will squad off in what’s essentially an elimination game next weekend. Colorado faces Kansas, while Iowa State travels to Utah.

In the SEC, Tennessee lost on the road to Georgia to drop to 8-2 on the season, dropping the Volunteers to No. 10 in the AP Poll. Texas and Texas A&M are both 5-1 in the conference, while Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Ole Miss all have two losses. The Longhorns and Aggies still have to play each other, which means we could see up to five teams with two losses fighting for a spot in the SEC Championship game.
