Penn State held firm at No. 4 in the Coaches Poll Sunday following yesterday’s win over Minnesota. While the win was closer than many expected, James Franklin’s squad improved to 10-1 on the season, which wasn’t the case for so many other teams across the country on Saturday. That was especially true in the SEC, as three former Top 15 programs – Alabama, Ole Miss and Texas A&M – all lost on the road.
But the day started with all eyes on Columbus as No. 2 Ohio State hosted former No. 5 Indiana. The Hoosiers came out swinging, scoring on an 11-play, 70-yard drive to open the game. However, the Buckeyes were dominant after that, forcing the Hoosiers to either punt or turn the ball over on nine of their final ten drives. Indiana finished with just 151 total yards in the game. The loss dropped them to No. 10 in the Coaches Poll.
Florida also got the best of Ole Miss during the early slate. Despite being outgained 464 to 344, Ole Miss turned the ball over four times in the game, including back-to-back interceptions on their final two drives. Alabama was also thoroughly outplayed on the road at Oklahoma, scoring just three points in the first quarter. Just like Ole Miss, turnovers doomed the Crimson Tide, as quarterback Jalen Milroe threw three interceptions on Alabama’s final five drives. Texas A&M’s 43-41 loss at Auburn also surprised many, but it’s important to note that the Aggies still control their path to the playoff if they’re able to beat Texas at home next week and then win the SEC Championship.
