Penn State news and notes for Dec. 14 include a former Lions transfer destination plus portal updates and more.

It’s time to dive into Thursday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with former Penn State punter Alex Bacchetta. He entered the transfer portal back on Dec. 4 when it first opened to undergraduates. Now, he’s decided where he will play next. The Atlanta, Ga., native is off to Rice. The Owls finished 114 out of 133 FBS schools in average punting yards per game. So, an opportunity to win the job, which he could not do in State College, is likely on the table in Houston. Bacchetta came out of high school as one of the most highly-regarded specialists in the country. But, he concluded his time with the Lions after punting just three times.

In other news, a pair of Penn State portal targets made headlines on Wednesday. Neither were positive for the Lions. North Texas receiver Ja’Mori Maclin committed to Kentucky. And, Duke defensive tackle Aeneas Peebles released a list of top options that does not include Penn State. The latter could still return to the Blue Devils, however. Maclin, meanwhile, quickly earned an offer from the Lions after entering the portal. But, he never actually visited State College before deciding.

Quote of the day

“I felt like, the way I was playing this year, I kind of slowed the game down in a way and was diagnosing plays and everything like that quicker,” Sacca said. “I feel like I did a better job at recognizing run and pass, playing better in the box, getting more comfortable there and playing linebacker as the season went on. At the start of the season, I was more so just being an athlete on the football field. As the season went on, I felt like I became more of a linebacker and got better with my technique, per se.”
