Penn State football has numerous former players suiting up at other colleges this fall. They span various recruiting classes and will have a wide variety of roles for their current teams this fall. Here’s the full rundown.

Former Penn State players suiting up elsewhere on offense

WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith, Auburn: ‘KLS’ dealt with some bumps and bruises during his first preseason camp with the Tigers. But, those are not keeping him off the first line of the depth chart at wide receiver. He’s received good reviews since arriving at the SEC school. We’ll find out soon if his play matches them.

WR Cristian Driver, Minnesota: There has been very litten written or said about Driver since he changed Big Ten schools this offseason. And, the Golden Gophers are not putting out a depth chart ahead of their season opener. So, it’s anyone’s guess whether or not he has a role at this point in time. With that said, he is focused strictly on receiver in Minneapolis.

RB London Montgomery, East Carolina: Montgomery moved on from PSU after just one season. With no depth chart posted at ECU, it’s unclear where he is in the pecking order at his new school entering Week 1. But, with at least one grad senior back in the backfield, he figures to be a backup at best in 2024.

WR Malik McClain, Arizona State: ArizonaSports.com projects McClain will start for the Sun Devils in 2024. He is now at his third college. There was a ton of turnover in the team’s receiver room, which is undoubtedly why the program was attractive to McClain, who aims for his best season yet in 2024.

WR Malick Meiga, Coastal Carolina: McClain is listed as an OR to start at receiver with junior Cameron Wright. A former captain at Penn State, he is certain to have a significant special teams role at his new school in addition to whatever work he earns on offense.

RB Devyn Ford, Notre Dame: Ford is No. 4 on the Fighting Irish’s Week 1 depth chart. He was working as the third-string ball carrier per BWI sister site Blue Gold Online in early August. So, how he fell a peg down the positional grid is unclear, and the same can be said for his role this fall.

OL Jimmy Christ, Virginia: SI projects Christ to be the Cavaliers’ backup right tackle this fall. Christ earned just 146 snaps a year ago, per PFF, which was the second lowest among the ACC team’s tackles.

QB Michael Johnson Jr., Syracuse: Johnson Jr., joined the Orange in 2024 after three seasons at FAU. He enters what should be his final college season as the backup to Syracuse starter Kyle McCord.

RB Keyvone Lee, Mississippi State: Lee will share the first-team back field role with classmate Davon Booth. A year ago, Lee rushed just 12 times for 75 yards. Booth, then, ran for 734 yards and five scores at Utah State before joining the Bulldog this offseason.

QB Christian Veilleux, Georgia State: Veilleux, who left Pitt after the 2023 season, is battling Georgia Tech transfer Zach Gibson for the starting job. It’s unclear if head coach Dell McGee will reveal his final choice before kickoff.

RB Caziah Holmes, Florida State: After taking only 90 snaps in 2023, Holmes enters 2024 in a backup role in the Seminoles backfield. He carried two times for eight yards in the team’s season-opening upset loss to Georgia Tech last weekend in Dublin.

QB Ta’quan Roberson, Kansas State: Roberson enters 2024 as the backup to Wildcats starting quarterback Avery Hill. He joined the program this offseason after spending the last two seasons at UCONN, which he attended after leaving the Lions following the 2021 season.

QB Micah Bowens, Bethune-Cookman: Bowens saw limited work during Cookman’s final scrimmage of preseason camp, per the school’s official website. He figures to be the program’s third-string passer this fall.

OL Ibrahim Traore, Toledo: After joining the Rockets this offseason, the former Penn State blocker is listed as the program’s backup left guard for its Week 1 clash with Duquense.

Former Nittany Lions lining up elsewhere on defense

S King Mack, Alabama: Mack is going to have a role for the Crimson Tide this fall. It does not appear that he will start, however, out of the gate in Tuscaloosa. He was facing a similar situation in State College ahead of his second college season. But, the path to the field is still likely easier at the SEC school.

DL Davon Townley, Missouri State: This school does not release a depth chart. So, there will be no clarity about Townley’s role until after the season opener.

DL Jordan van den Berg, Georgia Tech: van den Berg is the Yellow Jacket’s backup nose tackle. He played 21 snaps in GT’s upset win over FSU last weekend. However, he had no counting stats.

P Alex Bacchetta, Rice: Bacchetta entered preseason camp behind incumbent Conor Hunt, who enters his final college season. A depth chart is not yet out, so the result of that battle will not be known until game day. But, Hunt likely will win it.

DT Fatorma Mulbah, West Virginia: Mulbah was battling for the first-team nose tackle job at the start of camp. A new depth chart isn’t out. He’ll play plenty whether he’s a first-teamer or not after totaling 240 snaps a year ago.

DL Rodney McGraw, Western Michigan: According to the school’s official website, McGraw is looking at having a rotational role to begin the 2024 season. He comes to WMU by way of Louisville and PSU, of course.

DL Ken Talley, Michigan State: Talley is battling for rotation work in East Lansing after sitting out last season. The school did not release a Week 1 depth chart as of the time of this story’s publication, however.

DT Cole Brevard, Purdue: Brevard is lined up for a starter number of reps in 2024. He is set to share the nose tackle role with junior teammate Mo Omonode. He played a lot in 2023, too, finishing with 416 snaps.

DL Jamari Buddin, Grand Valley State: A linebacker at Penn State, Buddin made a stop at New Mexico State before ending up at GVSU. His status on the depth chart is unclear.

S Tyler Rudolph, UMASS: Rudolph was a Phil Steele All-Independent Team pick following a 2023 season that saw him finish with 40 tackles. He will have a big role in the Minutemen’s defense this fall.

LB Lance Dixon, Toledo: Dixon left West Virginia to join the Rockets. He will be a backup to start the year for the MAC team in 2024.
