Penn State tweets of the day

Two one-time Nittany Lions will play for the East team when it faces the West side in tonight’s Shrine Bowl in Frisco, Tex. Cornerback Jalen Kimber immediately joined the NFL Draft all-star game event at the conclusion of the 2024 season. Guard Sal Wormley, then, was a late add to the list of prospects on hand. The Shrine Bowl announced him as a roster addition back on Monday. The game starts at 8 p.m. ET Thursday night on NFL Network. It is the 100th Shrine Bowl. Mike Yam (play-by-play), Bucky Brooks and Isaiah Stanback (color commentator), and Jane Slater (sideline reporter) are on the call.

Kimber and Wormley are the only two former Penn State players suiting up in a NFL Draft all-star game this year. No Nittany Lions are at the Senior Bowl. It’s uncommon but does make sense for a couple of reasons. The first is how far into January the team played. The second is that All-Americans Abdul Carter and Tyler Warren would have had little to gain in Mobile, Ala. Linebacker Kobe King, meanwhile, was invited to the longstanding event but declined for the former reason.

“After playing deep into the College Football Playoff with my brothers at Penn State, I have decided to decline the invite to this year’s Senior Bowl so I can focus on getting my body right and training for the @NFLDraft,” King wrote on social media. “Good luck to all the participants, and thank you to the @SeniorBowl team for extending the invite.”

Quote of the day

“It’s big. As know, as far as the event, you keep it perspective. But where we want to go, it’s big. I mean, you’re wrestling the best team in the country. And, it’s a measuring stick. There are individual matchups that have postseason seating implications. So, you got to be ready. And it’s really no different than any other weekend, but it’s different. I mean, it’s different.”
