Penn State has just two games to go in its regular season. That means some members of the Class of 2024 who the program wanted to redshirt can now play as many games as the Lions deem appropriate from here on and still preserve a year of eligibility.

“[Receiver] Tyseer Denmark is an example of that, both as a punt returner and as a wide receive,” Lions coach James Franklin said Monday. “[Offensive tackle] Eagan Boyer now falls into that category. He’s doing some good things for us.”

Running back Corey Smith also can play out the string on offense. Positionmate Quinton Martin Jr., however, can only play in one more game during the regular season.

“Quinton has already played in three games,” Franklin said. “So we really only have one more game with him during the regular season. We just have to decide this week is it this week or next week? We’re going to let those two guys compete, and whoever gives us the best chance to win this week will be the guy that’s green lighted as the third.”

As for where things stand on defense, ddefensive tackle Xavier Gilliam, defensive ends Max Granville and Jaylen Harvey, safety Vaboue Toure, and cornerback Antoine Belgrave-Shorter and cornerback Jon Mitchell can all play in both of the final two games. Linebacker Anthony Speca and cornerback Kenny Woseley Jr., however, are like Martin Jr.: They can play in only one more regular season game.

It goes without saying of course that any Nittany Lion freshmen who hasn’t played yet is able to do so the rest of the way, too.

Here’s a look at this week’s redshirt report.
