Penn State news, notes, and updates for March 6 include a look back at the NFL Combine, headlines of the day, and more.

It’s time to dive into Wednesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start back with a look at the NFL Combine. Ten former Penn State players were on hand. A lower-body ended expected first-round pick Olu Fashanu’s day early. Cornerback Kalen King did not have the day he hoped to. Otherwise, the Nittany Lions shined in Indianapolis, which has become an annual tradition over the last decade. However, only one of the 10 made The 33rd Team’s list of the 11 freakiest performances at the event: Defensive end Chop Robinson. He checked in at No. 6.

“Stop me if you have heard this before: A Penn State Nittany Lion dominated the combine,” Connor Livesay writes. “We knew heading into the event that Chop Robinson would dominate the athletic testing portion, and he did just that. He started things off on the right foot, weighing in at 6-foot-3, 254 pounds, reaching the 250-pound threshold many wanted to see.

“Robinson did not stop there. He ran a 4.48-second 40-yard dash, posted a 34.5-inch vertical and a 10-foot-8 broad jump, and he ran the fastest 10-yard split ever recorded for a 250-plus pound edge rusher at 1.54 seconds. While he’s still on the smaller side for an every-down edge rusher, Robinson’s 9.68 RAS score proves how dynamic of an athlete he is when rushing the passer.”

In other news, ESPN’s Jordan Reid has four Nittany Lions in his latest two-round mock draft. The list includes Fashanu to the New York Jets at No. 10, Robinson to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at No. 26, Adisa Isaac to the Washington Commanders at No. 40, and Theo Johnson to the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 49.

Quote of the day

“I think we’re naturally young, charismatic guys, and we have a really good banter. And our banter tends to be really enjoyed by other people. And I think it’s documented that we can have fun but also touch on serious topics. I think it’s important for people to understand our perspectives, because I think we look at every school with the mass message that’s usually made by maybe like a coach or an administrator or a trustee. You take that quote and kind of associate it with the players, but I think it’s important to see how guys feel about it, how it’s impacting their lives.

“I think it’s just it’s more authentic. It provides a platform for guys to be truly authentic and genuine about their ideals and their purpose and, you know, also give people a little background context of who they are — to see behind the mask, because … a lot of people know who KeAndre Lambert-Smith is but don’t know what he looks like. So you know, you get to put a face to a number.”
