Breaking down the All-Big Ten teams
First things first: We get that fans, and surely some within the program, will get wound up about these picks. You can see them all from the Big Ten here. At the end of the day, from our point of view, the only significant injustice is both the coaches and media both leaving Durant off of one of the first three teams. You don’t need to watch all 12 regular season games to gauge the impact he had on opponents and the Lions’ defense alike despite the stat sheet not being as populate as some other players.
At safety, Reed certainly has a case to make for a first-team nod considering he should have been among the top candidates for the Big Ten defensive back of the year honor that went to Ohio State’s Caleb Downs. But, there are only four first-team spots and the field was very crowded and accomplished. The Nittany Lion probably continues to feel under-respected regionally and nationally and rightly so. He’s had a great season and held the Penn State defense together after KJ Winston Jr., went down six quarters into the year.
Last but not least, it’s surprising that Harris did not make the media’s honorable mention list and Dennis-Sutton the coaches’. But, again, at least externally, it’s challenging to get too worked up over these lists, as there are snubs every year, some of which are certainly more glaring than others.
