Hardware will be handed out during a live show that runs from 9 – 11 p.m. ET tonight in Atlanta, Ga. The 34th installment of the annual show will feature the announcement of 23 awards in addition to the Walter Camp All-American team. Here’s a look at the Penn State players in the running for them and also who they are competing against:
Mackey Award: Tyler Warren is up against Bowling Green’s Harold Fannin Jr., and Michigan’s Colston Loveland for the trophy given to the sport’s top tight end. He is expected to win it.
Wuerffel Trophy: Penn State center Nick Dawkins is battling Dean Janikowski of Washington State
and Jack Kiser of Notre Dame for the honor given to the player who best mixes on-field success and sportsmanship with an off-field track record of community service and giving back.
Bednarik Award: The honor that goes to the nation’s best defender is down to Lions’ defensive end Abdul Carter, Colorado cornerback Travis Hunter, and Ohio State cornerback Caleb Downs. Hunter already beat out Warren for the Paul Hornung Award. It goes to the nation’s most versatile player.
For what it’s worth, Carter has already lost out on the Nagurski Trophy, which he was a finalist for. It went to South Carolina defender Kyle Kennard.

Quote of the day
“Early on, we weren’t sure [what position], but we just knew that this was a really good athlete with really good size in the state of Pennsylvania that we needed to have as part of our roster. There were a lot of talks with Brady about tight end, offensive line, even defensive line a little bit early on, just trying to figure out where he fit. We settled on offensive line, just [because of] the way his body developed. He has the length to do it athletically. We think that’s probably the best fit for his long-term success. We were very open and honest with him about it through the recruitment process, and he was really excited about doing that.”
