Penn State finishes winter workouts this week. The Nittany Lions started drills under the direction of head strength coach Chuck Losey and his staff earlier this month. The push is nearly over as spring break starts this coming weekend while spring practice starts on March 12. Tuesday marked the penultimate conditioning grind of the month. After it, competitors of the day were picked.

Who were the Penn State winter workout No. 7 winners?

Quarterback: Jaxon Smolik

Running back: Nicholas Singleton

Wide receiver: Malick Meiga

Tight end: Luke Reynolds

Offensive line: Vega Ioane

Defensive line: Zuriah Fisher

Linebacker: Kobe King

Cornerback: Antoine Belgrave-Shorter

Safety: Kevin Winston Jr.

Special teams: Blaise Sokach-Minick

Takeaways

Newcomers filled up a fair chunk of the competitor of the day sheet. Reynolds and Belgrave-Shorter both arrived about two months ago at the start of the spring semester and have quickly developed some positive buzz entering their first opportunity to put the pads on and compete in March. Smolik earned his first head nod in the quarterback room, as well.

There were still some repeat winners, of course. The one that stands out to us is Fisher, who has now taken four of seven competitor of the day picks from position coach Deion Barnes. It continues to signal that the veteran pass rusher is going to push for a career-high in playing time during the 2024 season.
