Penn State wrestling has been without 133-pound sophomore starter Braeden Davis for each of its last two matches. He missed the Lions’ win over Iowa two Fridays ago and then was not on the mat when the team took out Michigan 39-0 two days ago at the Bryce Jordan Center. The nature of the Michigan native’s injury is not available. But, he did compete earlier this year with a wrap on his right leg. Will he be back in the lineup today when the Lions host Maryland at 1 p.m. ET on B1G+?
“I don’t actually know the answer to that,” Sanderson said when asked about Davis’ status on Friday night. “I mean, that’ll be a Sunday or tomorrow night, we’ll make a decision.”
At this point, the decision has likely been made. But, we won’t find out for sure until weigh-ins take place around 11 a.m. this morning. Sanderson said back on Monday that Davis was “banged up” from a previous match this year. If he cannot go, the Lions will likely turn to redshirt freshman Kyison Garcia. He beat Michigan’s Christian Tanefeu by decision, 4-1. Veteran Kurt McHenry got the call against Iowa and lost to No. 2 Drake Ayala.

“I thought Garcia did a really good job,” Sanderson said. “He hasn’t wrestled since November, I don’t think. And so, that’s a big match for your first match, and the first time he’s wrestling in a dual meet, so I think he did a nice job. He scored his points and, and I think he probably learned a lot, and hopefully he can just continue to build off of that.”
