It’s decision day for Class of 2025 recruit Dayshaun Burnett. The four-star defender from Pittsburgh will pick between Penn State and four other finalists this afternoon at his high school, Imani Christian Academy. He stands 6-foot-2, 217 pounds and could play linebacker or defensive end at the college level.

Head coach James Franklin’s team with nine verbal commitments in the Class of 2025, which is good for a top 15 spot in the early On3 Industry Team Rankings for the next cycle. Will it hit the double digit mark today? Let’s take a closer look at Burnett’s upcoming announcement.

When is Daysaun Burnett picking his college home?

Burnett is set to announce at 2:45 p.m. ET. He has not yet said if his announcement will be streamed live on either YouTube and/or another form of social media. But, if it is the latter, you can find his Twitter page here. Blue-White Illustrated will update this space when more information is available.

Who are the contenders besides Penn State?

Akron and UMass were the first college football programs to offer Burnett. Neither is still in the running to land him. Penn State was the first Power Five program to offer him, doing so in June of 2022. Nearly 20 programs joined the running between then and now. The junior announced a top-five list of finalists that includes the Lions, West VirginiaKentuckyPittsburgh, and Rutgers.

What does the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine say?

Penn State, powered by seven unofficial visits and picks from BWI recruiting insiders Sean Fitz and Ryan Snyder for Burnett to end up with the Lions, has a commanding lead on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine to start the day. The Mountaineers hosted him five times, and the Panthers and Scarlet Knights each had him on campus three times. His lone January visit was to Pitt in the middle of last month.

What has Burnett said about the Nittany Lions?

Speaking to BWI after the Lions’ 2022 White Out game, Burnett said he was impressed by all that he saw in State College.

“The environment, the fans, the passion… It was a great experience,” he said. “Also what stood out was the coaches and players’ relationship. Just how the coaches are very helpful toward the players and their individual situations.”
