Recruiting is in full swing for James Franklin and his Penn State staff as the Lions wait for a bowl opponent.

The coaches have all been on the road this week. That includes an off-field staffer who temporarily took Brent Pry’s spot on the trail.

In the second newsstand of December, we focus primarily on recruiting. But, there are also names to be aware of in the defensive coordinator search plus other things to know on Thursday, Dec. 2.

Let’s dive into the tweets and headlines of the day.

We begin our review with news in the Class of 2022.

Four-star Oradell, N.J., Bergan Catholic Jaeden Gould has decommitted from USC. The decision comes just 13 days before the early signing period begins and shortly after Lincoln Riley became the school’s new head coach.

Gould, who stands 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, previously picked the Trojans over Penn State back during the summer. Are the Lions still an option now that he’s opened things up? We’ll see, but space is at a premium in this cycle for Franklin’s program. It is probably fair to say that it’s not an automatic yes.

Next, we’ll look at a bunch of other recruiting updates from Wednesday.

Penn State receivers coach Taylor Stubblefield had an in-home visit with three-star Texas receiver Omari Evans. The rundown also includes newly-shaved lists from 2023 recruits, offers, and more.

We should also note that Class of 2022 commit Nick Singleton is Penn State’s first On3 Consensus five-star.

The All-Big Ten teams on offense have been announced. Receiver Jahan Dotson was a first-team media pick. Tackle Rasheed Walker was third-team media. All other Penn State players made only the honorable mention list.

Quote of the day

“They’re all capable of putting up huge numbers. And we held them down. We held them to 63 points,” Shrewsberry said. “63 has to be enough. We can’t turn the ball over 14 times. If every single night we’re sitting in here and the other team has 63, I’m feeling really good about how we’re guarding.”
