Excerpts: Purdue men’s basketball chat session

Q: Has any specific plan or style come up to curb the potential rebounding liability?

A: Just emphasis. They’ve always schemed players into offensive rebounding position, but not sure how much you can do that on D. Everyone on the floor is going to be needed to block out and go and get the ball.

Q: Has either true 5 separated themselves? It sounds like Berg will get the nod to start, but is the gap wide or small?

A: I’d imagine Berg’s screening, rebounding and experience gave him a big leg-up to start with but Jacobsen should be getting better day by day, so we’ll see where they are in December, but I’d think that Berg would have a slight edge. Just guessing.

Q: What’s the chance that Cox/Harris end up starting at some point during the season?

A: Very real, IMO. I think the three-guard possibilities are very, very real, something that could eat into Myles Colvin‘s minutes some or push him off the wing at times. But if he shows he can be a really complete player at both ends of the floor, that’s going to be a good problem to have.

I think this is a season where defenses emphasize getting the ball out of Braden Smith‘s hands so having that extra ball-handler on the floor is going to be something they want. Fletcher Loyer is a good third ball-handler.

Q: How likely is it to see a step back in team wide 3P% now that Edey is gone? Do you anticipate teams doubling the post less and causing more perimeter issues?

A: No they’ll have to double TKR IMO. He needs to do a good job processing, anticipating and passing. Possible their % goes down, sure, but more so if they’re shooting more of them or taking tougher ones.
