Some of the numbers for Purdue-Notre Dame this week

2005

The year that the Boilermakers had a bigger home opener crowd than the 59,488 that witnessed the 49-0 drubbing of Indiana State. Coach Joe Tiller’s ninth team drew 64,757 in a 49-24 win over Akron on Sept. 10, 2005.

Gary Danielson, pictured here against Washington in 1971, started in three seasons at quarterback for coach Bob DeMoss from 1970-72.

Years since Purdue Cradle of Quarterbacks member Gary Danielson served as a color analyst for a Purdue game, something he will be doing this weekend with play-by-play announcer Brad Nesler for CBS. The last game Danielson did involving the Boilermakers was Oct. 23, 2004, when No. 13 Michigan beat No. 12 Purdue 23-21. Danielson moved from ABC to CBS in 2006.

The Boilermakers spread the touchdown wealth against Indiana State.

Number of Boilermakers who scored a touchdown in the win over Indiana State. Coincidentally, all were the first career TDs. It was the first time in a dozen years that it has happened. Eight different Boilermakers reached the end zone in Purdue’s 54-16 win over Eastern Michigan on Sept. 15, 2012.

Years since Notre Dame has lost back-to-back games as a double-digit favorite. The Irish were -28.5 against Northern Illinois last week.

11 for 110

A familiar problem was present in Game 1 for the Boilers – penalties. Purdue recorded 11 penalties for 110 yards, fifth-most in the country and second in the P4 to Michigan State (12 for 140 yards) in Week 1 games. Under Jeff Brohm, Purdue was commonly one of the lower-penalized teams in the country (average 81st in the country in penalties per game), but last year, Purdue was the third-most penalized team in the Big Ten.

Purdue’s Rondale Moore scores as Purdue upsets Ohio State in West Lafayette on Saturday October 20, 2018.

1-2

Since the beginning of the Brohm Era (2017), the Boilermakers have been 1-2 as a home underdog of 11 points or more. The Boilermaker victory came on (you guessed it) Oct. 20, 2018, when Purdue whipped Ohio State 49-0 as a 12-point home ‘dog. Purdue was a 17-point underdog last year in a 41-7 loss to the Buckeyes, and a 13.5 ‘dog in a 28-10 loss to Michigan in ’17. Additionally, Purdue has beaten seven ranked foes over the past six seasons, despite being teh underdog in each of those games.
