Years since Notre Dame has lost back-to-back games as a double-digit favorite. The Irish were -28.5 against Northern Illinois last week.
11 for 110
A familiar problem was present in Game 1 for the Boilers – penalties. Purdue recorded 11 penalties for 110 yards, fifth-most in the country and second in the P4 to Michigan State (12 for 140 yards) in Week 1 games. Under Jeff Brohm, Purdue was commonly one of the lower-penalized teams in the country (average 81st in the country in penalties per game), but last year, Purdue was the third-most penalized team in the Big Ten.
1-2
Since the beginning of the Brohm Era (2017), the Boilermakers have been 1-2 as a home underdog of 11 points or more. The Boilermaker victory came on (you guessed it) Oct. 20, 2018, when Purdue whipped Ohio State 49-0 as a 12-point home ‘dog. Purdue was a 17-point underdog last year in a 41-7 loss to the Buckeyes, and a 13.5 ‘dog in a 28-10 loss to Michigan in ’17. Additionally, Purdue has beaten seven ranked foes over the past six seasons, despite being teh underdog in each of those games.
