Gerald Thomas has a double celebration in store for today, as the former Boilermaker forward (1974-77) turns 68 today. Thomas, a native of Connersville, Indiana where he was an Indiana All-Star and state champion, was an important role player under coach Fred Schaus.

As a freshman, Thomas shined in the NIT Tournament finals filling in, in part, for the injured Jerry Nichols and helping the Boilermakers become the first Big Ten team to win the NIT. As a senior, Thomas was part of Purdue’s second team to make an NCAA Tournament.

A renowned community person and civic leader, Thomas has served on the West Lafayette City Council for years and plans to run again for another term. He has also held various roles at Purdue University.

Thomas and his wife Susan, have two grown children and live within walking distance of Mackey Arena.
