Grades and notes:

  • Purdue’s pass-blocking grades substantially improved following a horrendous scorecard last week. Every offensive lineman graded out well, as well as both running backs.
  • On the other hand, Purdue’s run-blocking grades came back shaky despite a phenomenal day on the ground. The run blocking graded fairly well against Notre Dame.
  • Individually, no grades really stood out one way or the other. Hudson Card and Gus Hartwig tied for top honors.
  • Middling grades across the board for Purdue’s wide receivers. Two drops: Max Klare and Jaron Tibbs.
  • Only 17 players saw the field for Purdue on offense.

Hudson Card’s passing chart:

  • Clean: 6-12. 56 yards, TD, INT (good grade)
  • Under pressure: 1-5, 0 yards (poor grade)
  • Not blitzed: 5-11, 20 yards, INT
  • Blitzed: 2-6, 36 yards, TD (good grade)

  • No play action: 4-13, 37 yards, TD, INT
  • Screen: 3-3, 2 yards
  • No screen: 4-14, 54 yards, TD, INT
  • Card’s average depth of target: 11.1 yards downfield
  • Despite trying to push the ball downfield, he finished with just 3.3 yards per attempt
  • Three of Card’s seven completions came behind the line of scrimmage

Running game:

  • Just shy of nine yards per carry for Purdue on Saturday. 30 carries for 267 yards per PFF’s metrics.
  • The two backs combined to force seven missed tackles
  • Purdue ran to the left more than it did the right, especially with Mockobee in the game
  • Card scrambled effectively, 3 times for 33 yards
