Series notes: Oregon becomes the first West Coast team to visit West Lafayette for a league tilt on Friday. The Ducks and Boilermakers have met three times, with Oregon enjoying a 2-1 advantage. Purdue took down Oregon in Ross-Ade Stadium back in 1979, while the Ducks won both games in a home-and-home series in 2008 and 2009. All three meetings between the two have been decided by six points or less. This matchup will serve as the third Friday game to take place inside Ross-Ade Stadium. STORYLINES TO WATCH

Signs of life?

At halftime in Champaign, Purdue looked dead in the water, destined for another blowout loss. Then, the Boilermakers ripped off 46 points in the second half and overtime, a two-point conversion away from the largest comeback in program history. Which half of football better represents reality for Purdue? The half that led to a 24-point deficit, or the half where Purdue scored at will?

Decision at quarterback

As Hudson Card missed the Illinois game due to a concussion, Ryan Browne turned in a stellar performance, nearly leading Purdue to a shocking victory. Now, who will take the snaps from Gus Hartwig this week? Illinois didn’t have tons of preparation time for Browne, but now Oregon will be able to prepare for either option.

Welcome to the Big Ten

Fresh off a dramatic victory over Ohio State, Oregon will take on Purdue for the first time as a member of the Big Ten. This marks Purdue’s first league game against one of the new additions from the West Coast, the only one of the season. Big Ten teams traveling multiple time zones are just 3-9 this season. After a exhilarating win, will jet lag impact the Ducks?

Ryan Walters on the Ducks

“They are very talented, big physical and fast. They have playmakers at every spot on the roster. I know (Oregon coach) Dan Lanning and he is a great coach. They haven’t had anyone figure them out this year. We will have to be strategic and find a way to play with pace, but that is easier said than done.”
